Citation
[2002]1 FLR 956
The wife sought financial relief from her former husband of property and assets owned in the United Kingdom. The husband had obtained a divorce overseas, in the the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The issue before the court was whether the UK courts could recognise the divorce because the British Government did not recognse the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The court held that an English Court could and should garnt recognition of decrees of divorce validly granted in the Turkish republic of Northern Cyprus.
