R v T [2023] (Crown Court at Croydon)

18.10.2023

Margo represented a Defendant charged with five counts of possession with intent to supply a class A drug and one count of possession of a bladed article, running the defence under s45 of the Modern Slavery Act 2014. Despite a finding by the Home Office’s Single Competent Authority that the Defendant was a victim of trafficking, the Crown decided to continue prosecution due to unexplained inconsistencies in the Defendant’s account. After 2h 10m of deliberation the jury returned a unanimous Not Guilty verdict.
